RATES AND FAQ

Rates/FAQ: FAQ

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

$300 for the 30 week course and grading of papers. Enroll here.

WHAT IS THE WORKLOAD LIKE?

This is an honors high school English course teaching basic essay writing and literature analysis. Students will average 50 pages per week of reading plus weekly journaling or writing assignments. Essay writing and literature analysis will be taught gradually throughout the course so that the workload will not be too overwhelming. Students vary dramatically in their reading speed and writing ability, but the average 9th grader might expect to spend 2 to 4 hours per week outside of class.

LIVE CLASSES OR PRERECORDED LECTURES?

I conduct live, interactive online classes using a conferencing app. This app allows students to interact over the microphone with the teacher (the student will mute his microphone when not answering or asking a question). Students will be able to see the teacher’s computer screen so they can interact over material together.

Students will also do some online posting or emailing of papers for peer feedback.

WHAT IS THE CLASS SIZE?

To keep discussion vibrant, I host classes with a minimum of 3 and maximum of 8 students per class.

WHEN DO CLASSES MEET?

Classes are one hour per week online for 30 weeks. Days and times of classes will be established around the schedules of the first students who have expressed interest.

Classes start the second week of September and run through mid-May, with the following weeks taken off: Thanksgiving week, 2 weeks over Christmas, a spring break week, and Easter break week.

WHAT ARE THE TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS?

Students will need a good internet connection, a phone or computer with a microphone, and the free conferencing app.

ARE THERE COURSE PREREQUISITES OR A MINIMUM AGE FOR JOINING?

Students should have a solid background in paragraph-level writing and the ability to read well enough to handle approximately 50 pages per week. They must be responsible enough to turn in weekly assignments consistently. Students reach this maturity level at different points so the course has no other age requirements.
